Anorexia is a form of brainwashing; you chose to become anorexic for whatever reason but on the subconscious level, you would not have known it was happening. You sought solace for your feelings in the anorexia, so in essence you brainwashed yourself, although not willingly. 

This brainwashing is also the negative side of neuroplasticity, you programmed your subconscious mind to act in a certain way and built a set of neuronal pathways in your brain that fire when you encounter triggers that keep you locked into your anorexia. 

Freud said that “two neuronal pathways built together fire together” and this is why the anorexia keeps you a prisoner in your own mind.

Luckily neuroplasticity is a two Way Street, so you can reverse the damage by building new neuronal pathways, positive ones not negative ones, but you need the correct methods.
